SEANCE
The following poem comes from Read Write Poem’s prompt #83 – a “wordle” that looks like this.
SEANCE
I’d like to burn intentions into a powder stump,
apply a pinky’s worth atop my tongue
for later when loitering souls stop in
to talk about the aftertaste of wasted meat and bones.
It’s too late to caution Thomas not to take
that river plunge, to yell, “Hold tight to the rope,”
instead of “Jump.”
“Grab the fallen log,” instead of, “Go with the flow.”
“Fight as if your life will end,” rather than
“Surrender, let go.
Come tell me what it’s like when you’re there.”

Taut post!
acuity of touch
dave those opening two couplets suck the reader right into this poem. “a pinkys worth” very unusual yet extremely vivid. the casualness of the speaker towards the end plays well with the subject matter, remorse or delight lets the reader decide. enjoyed -lawrence
The first four lines are fantastic! What a great opening to a poem.
“…the aftertaste of wasted meat and bones.” Wow!
I am wondering if after you wrote this, Thomas came back to tell you what it’s like. My seance poem also includes a Thomas.
Wild.
Thanks Julie – I haven’t heard from Thomas yet, just keep picturing him on that rope swing. Thanks for the kind words.
